Regular, small checks prevent most of the expensive problems we see — rot, loose railings and failing stairs.
Spring
Wash the surface, check for soft or cracked boards, and look underneath for loose connections or standing water.
Summer
Move planters and mats occasionally so the boards underneath can dry, and keep grills on a protective pad.
Fall
Clear leaves from the surface and between boards. Trapped debris holds moisture and invites mildew.
Winter
Use a plastic shovel and avoid rock salt on wood decks. Check stair treads and railings after heavy snow.
